2008 will be my 8th season racing mountain bikes, trail running, adventure racing and kayaking. This year, I have
decided that as much as I enjoy racing, I enjoy racing for a reason even more. Once again, I plan to combine my
passion for raising money for cancer related organizations and competing at the same time. Personally, I have
raised $13,200 for the Leukemia Lymphoma Society and Lance Armstrong Foundation through cycling. As I
became more serious about racing, I took a break from raising money to concentrate on training. I quickly
realized that I was happiest when I was working for a greater cause. This year, I will be combining racing and
raising money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in memory of one of my oldest and best friends, Greg
Ponder. Greg lost his battle with Leukemia on September 27, 2002 at the young age of 32. He left behind a wife
and three children. As I compete, I will wear a "safety" lapel pin that Greg earned for 10 years of accident free
days at his employer. My goal is to raise $1000 and participate in the Indianapolis Mini-Marathon.
2008 will be my last year racing for a few years, as I take a break to concentrate on academics. I am currently in
the Kelly Graduate School of Business at Indiana University pursuing my Masters of Business Administration.
I have been married for 10 years to Valerie and we have two sons. Garrett Thomas, born July 29, 2004 and Cole
Landon, born December 12, 2007. My wife and I are both I.U. graduates and I currently serve on 3 different boards
with the I.U. Alumni Association.
