The Hoosier Mountain Bike Association, snowed under with running a $150,000 RTP grant at Brown County State Park, with very limited manpower and too many other building projects ongoing and Southsiders with no local place to ride have joined up, now permission has been granted by the Park Managers, to build trail here. A first property walk through, one of the most important stages of trail building, happened on May 10th. This identifies places where trail can go (typically out of the river flood plain) and where it cannot. Also it establishes how much of the property might lend it self to trail building. Another walk through to flag the river flood level after a typical spring storm system passes through will identify how high the river will commonly get during a typical Mid Western Spring. Obviously this area will be avoided but it is important that workers are available at the time of highest water to get the flag markers in.
Paul Arlinghaus (HMBA VP) demonstrating the use of the clinometer to Darin. This will be an important tool at SWW because of the elevation changes especially over short distances to make sure fully sustainable trail is built.
